description follows...note the underlined sentences especially where it says
medicare denials in home health care...The Center for Medicare Advocacy, Inc.,
founded in 1986, is a private, non-profit organization which provides education,
advocacy, and legal assistance to help elders and people with disabilities
obtain necessary healthcare. We focus on the needs of Medicare beneficiaries,
people with chronic conditions, and those in need of long-term care. The
organization is involved in writing, education, and litigation activities of
importance to Medicare beneficiaries nationwide. The Center has three
fully staffed offices. The central office is in Connecticut, the Data Unit
is in Maine, and our Healthcare Rights Project is in Washington, DC.

The Center is staffed by attorneys, paralegals, nurses,
information management experts, and technical assistants. Advice, written
materials, and legal services are free to Connecticut residents and for a fee
to others. A complete list of the organization's publications and products
is available upon request.
Each year, the Center represents thousands of individuals in
appeals of Medicare denials, particularly for home health care. The work of
the Center includes responding to over 1,500 calls each quarter on a toll free
telephone line in Connecticut, producing educational and self-help materials,
and pursuing Medicare coverage for dually eligible beneficiaries (individuals
who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid). The organization also
provides legal training and support for Connecticut's state health insurance and
assistance program, known as CHOICES.
The Center's staff act as consultants and trainers for groups
which are interested in learning about healthcare rights, Medicare coverage and
appeals and/or in developing Medicare advocacy projects. If you need help with a
Medicare or healthcare access problem, write or call the Center, toll free in
Connecticut at (800) 262-4414, or (860) 456-7790, or in Washington, D.C. at
(202) 216-0028. The Center's Executive Director, Attorney Judith Stein, is
available at the Connecticut office.
