I'm not attempting to answer your specific questions, but I offer the
following.  I have used OE for years and have had only one bad virus
experience.  I keep current on Windows and OE maintenance as recommended by
Microsoft.  I also use a suite of 'virus' software products and keep it
current per the vendor's recommendation (daily sometimes).  I'll stick with
OE for function and with McAfee for security and virus protection.
