My neuro said there is some evidence that dopamine, while effective
initially, in the long run may have some destructive effects. I don't know
the specifics but, like you, would like to know more.

I found it interesting to read fairly recently about the patient who received
an experimental treatment and, a year later, still showed significant
amelioration of symptoms even though his dopamine levels, which had risen
with treatment, had declined to their original levels. This suggests to me
that dopamine depletion is only part of a complex interaction and focusing on
dopamine alone is not going to get us where we need to go.
