Good Morning Rita and All,
MedicAlert? Of Course! Around the clock around the world....

Thousands of lives have been saved throughout the world by the
MedicAlert Foundation. In 1964, the Lions in Britain and Ireland
agreed to take on this life-saving charity as a special project for
all 'home' clubs. Now, 35 years later, the charity continues to
thrive and has expanded it's database of names and medical details to
over 180,000 people. Medic Alert has a London based office with 18
staff and 9,000 new members are joining the scheme annually.
MedicAlert membership world-wide, now stands at over 4 million
people.

The MedicAlert concept is a simple one. A body-worn bracelet or
necklet is engraved with the member's main medical details and
database number. World-wide access to the full medical database is
available 24 hours a day via an emergency telephone number, also on
the bracelet. Typical wearers are those suffering from Allergies,
Asthma, Kidney or Heart problems and any medical condition that could
be life threatening or cause problems if you were found in an
accident or unconcious.

The Medic-Alert Foundation will put your important medical
information in a database that can be accessed 24 hours a day from
anywhere in the world. You can call 1-800-825-3785 for membership
information or see http://www.medicalert.org

Another good idea is to take an extra pair of prescription glasses or
your prescription for glasses or contact lenses in case you lose them
when traveling.

If you or a member of your family have difficulty communicating,
impaired memory, allergy to medication, special medical problems
or use medical devices, wearing a Medic Alert emblem
could save your life.

Medic Alert provides a bracelet or neck chain engraved
with your medical condition, personal ID number
and Medic Alert's 24 hour hotline number.

As far as ID bracelets go.......I would much encourage people to use
Medic-Alert based in Turlock, CA......it is an ESTABLISHED medical
history repository. They have the bracelets available. They KNOW
how to maintain an active database.....and probably providing
accurate up to date info re: your physician and contact is primary
need....as well as drug allergies. Most of us have not only PD as
part of our medical history but others issues as
well..........allergies, previous surgeries etc......

and MORE IMPORTANTLY.....this is a reliable source that the MEDICAL
as well as SAFETY (police/fire) community has confidence in and is
accustomed to using........and has WORLD WIDE contact available with
all sorts of back ups in place. I do not have a financial interest
in Medic Alert.....but have been a member for many years prior to PD
diagnosis. Why seek another fix when one exists that works. The
fee is minimal for a WORKING solution.
