The Pope has just arrived in Toronto, Ontario, Canada...
and suffers from pd...

From the NYT account of his visit comes this gem:

 ....
Although the 82-year-old pope used a cargo lift to get on and off airplanes
during his previous foreign
trip — and there was one waiting for him here — today he chose to walk down
the steep, metal staircase to
the tarmac, his right hand clutching the rail as he took each methodical
step.

His head lolled forward and his face was virtually without expression, a
sign that the pope suffers from
Parkinson's disease, a degenerative neurological disorder. But when, with
the help of two aides, he reached
the bottom, he banged his cane repeatedly against the tarmac in what was
apparently a gesture of triumph.

He was then wheeled on a moving platform down a red carpet into a hangar,
where he met several hundred
admirers, including the Canadian prime minister, Jean Chrétien.

"The very fact that Your Holiness has made the trip here bears witness to
your tenacity and your courage,"
 Mr. Chrétien said.

The young Catholics on hand to hear the pope's 10-minute speech, delivered
partly in French and partly in
English, expressed a similar feeling in less formal language.

"Wow," said Genna Davidge, 16, of Peace River, Alberta. Miss Davidge said
that as she watched the pope work
through his handicaps to speak to them, she could "feel something radiating
from him."

 "It's amazing," she said.
 [snip]

Just wondering if he has ever gone public about his disease and why he
doesn't use his public presence to bring greater awareness of it to the
world. Is the Vatican secretely researching for treatments for him

Marketing Survey: Parkinson's Disease

This survey is for persons with Parkinson's Disease who use dopamine
agonists. (Hey Tom, does this mean they don't want input unless
you're currently taking an agonist??)

"The survey is sponsored by a marketing company that is advising a
manufacturer."

"We appreciate your participation and the willingness of the
Parkinson's organization that is posting this invitation to
participate on their web site."

manufacturer?? Parkinson's organization??

Tom, it would be nice to know who these guys are and what they are
doin' with the info before we give 'em 15 minutes of our time...

cheers ............... murray
