Ditto to Jean Mason's message. I completed my adhoc PhD at McGill in the Faculty of Education. Basically, I did a self-study of my own poetic process through a fictional correspondence that I created with the dead Modernist poet H.D. It involved reading all of her works and most of the literary criticism on her along with studies in rhetoric, discourse and creative writing theory. It was a great adventure, and I even got a few good poems out of it. I too had Anthony Pare as my advisor, and I highly recommend working with him. He gave me expert guidance, encouragement to try something arts-based and experimental, and a great deal of academic freedom. So come on down to McGill. Montreal is a city to dream for, and we could sure benefit from a few more Inkshedders in our midst--be they commuters, or those that come to stay.
