..and where do you get a few laughs around here,

Hi,

Yes, I've heard of these symptoms, and have them. With and without pain,
toes cramping, curling up or sticking upward, foot and/or hand turning in
and even a twisting feeling in the torso, is in my case caused by
dystonia. Dystonia is common in PD, as it is with other neurological
problems, and can be a primary problem of its own. I take Baclofen,
which is an MS drug, but it really helps my dystonia. I also take
Sinemet, Requip, and Comtan, but without Baclofen, I don't get much
relief from the dystonia. That you have Post Polio Syndrome as well as PD
makes it more complicated, but perhaps it doesn't matter whether or not
it is from PD or Polio or both. Maybe try to medicate for it, and see
what happens. Did you ever get this problem before your PD really
manifested?

As for courage, you have come to the right place, but I also recommend a
support group if you find one that suits you. It can be off putting and
depressing for some people--perhaps try to find one with newly diagnosed
cohorts. I have found courage and support from this group, from support
groups, and by getting involved in the fight to cure PD, as well as
helping others who need support. Don't be afraid to reach out; and if
you should feel alone and scared, or overwhelmed, remember to dig deep
inside yourself--I know you will find the resourcefullness, creativity,
and courage you need to begin solving or compensating for what's
impacting you. Trust and love yourself, and keep in touch--we're here
24/7.

As for jokes--the is a list called Sparkle--it's a spinoff of the
Parkinsn listserv, but I don't have the link for it. You can find it in
the PIEN archives, or maybe someone will read this and send it to you.

Good luck, and take it one day at a time,

Charlotte Mancuso
P.S. This all to the best of my knowledge and opinion. I have no
medical training other than my experience.
