Bob,,,

There is enough blame to go around for everybody.

Government has done a pretty good job overall, but many of their mistakes
are so ridiculous they stand out like a pair of sore thumbs.

Some M.D.'s have milked the present system for all they can legally and then
take some more. They then shout loudly about how mean the government has
been to them. This same bunch is the group who crucified Mrs. Clinton and
her plan which might have worked -- certainly would work better than the
patched system we have now. The M.D.'s who complain most about the cost of
malpractice insurance are usually the ones who have a bad history plus
several suits in the works. They didn't do anything wrong - people should
not expect them to keep up with all that new stuff that came out after they
got out of med school. Now the other providers are getting in on the gravy
train - like the CEO at HealthSouth. Here in Maryland there is a move to
take the BlueCross from non-profit status to a for profit in order to
increase efficiency and provide better care at less cost to the citizens of
Maryland. Why is the Maryland BlueCross non-profit? The CEO takes a salary
of over a million and a half now thanks to a big raise [24%] he was "given"
this year. If the privatization goes through he will get a bonus of several
million.

That is the climate today. Everybody [a gross exaggeration] is trying to get
what they want through insider trading (a president's son did it and got
away with it). Here in Salisbury we used to make Wayne Pumps - the things
you use to put gas in your car. Thanks to Dick and his boys at Halliburton,
the plant here has closed and the machinery has been sold or junked. Now the
pumps can be made in Mexico but they are not selling since the quality
control has been so lax. Cheap pump + cheap price will sell until customers
find out what they bought.

Change for the better is needed.
