Hi Maggie,

I can truly appreciate what you're going through, being newly diagnosed myself. All I can say is that the people on this list are very supportive. (A million thank yous to all of you for your support and ideas!) Although I live in a large city, I still worry because I am single and live alone. I, too, have balance problems and just purchased my first cane (that was a really difficult thing to do, too). Now I need to have the courage to use it in public, where I need it the most.

I do have a couple of suggestions for you which have helped me a bit. If the service is available in your area, you might want to consider getting a cell phone to carry with you around the house so that you can call somebody if you fall and can't get up. As for choking, maybe a quick course in self-administration of the Heimlich might help you out a bit. Call your local firestation and the firefighters and/or EMTs or paramedics would be happy to show you what to do.

Feel free to write me privately. I may not be on email every day, but I will answer, eventually.

TTFN

Connie

{BTW, is there an emoticon (like :-) for smiley faces) for PWPs? If not, someone should come up with one ;-) }
