Good Day, It is surely is a dilemma to know whether to applaud or give short shrift to celebrities who make public statements about PD. I give credit to most people who understand that they have different circumstances than the rest of us. Maybe the thing to do is we all become "minor celebrities" . To the extent that we can and with the gifts we are given. The enemy, in addition to the PD, is ignorance, which produces fear and apprehension on the part of the general public. Being public about our condition is teaching in small ways that we exist and what PD is all about. By speaking out as Joan has done or showing one classroom of children that we ordinary people with a progressive disability. Being able to discuss details your condition with family and friends. You cannot predict where help may originate. I choose to carry on with my activities in the public arena. Having to speak from my notes on a podium because of the hand shaking. Having to time my meds in order to be in maximum control for driving any distance or attend public functions are just adjustments. Admittedly frustrating, but still adjustments.
