Scott, I do not know your age, etc. However, I have this suggestion. I think too many people wait until they are really disabled (that may be the fault of the doctor) before they seek DBS treatment. Then it is often too late. Most people have reached the age where they may not be unemployable but an employer would rather invest their time and money in a younger person. It may not technically be age discrimination --- but it is reality. By seeking DBS treatment BEFORE you are legally disabled you should be able to continue employment. AND --- you can get it done while you may still have insurance coverage. Many younger onsets fall into that gap where they lose their job and insurance but are too young for Medicare coverage. I suggest --- do not wait to get treatment so you can continue employment. I'm 44 and have had PD for the last 5 years or so. There have been a lot of days where I think applying for disability is just around the corner. Then I'll have a couple of good days at work and I'll put it in the back of my mind. Could you tell me when you stopped working? It's quite the tough choice.
