Good Morning All,

My cyber sis Gail sent me the following excerpt..

Check this out...

Characteristics and Treatment of Motor Complications
in PD (Movement Disorders Congress 2002)
Date: 11/24/2002

E-MOVE reports from the Seventh International Congress
of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders,
November 10- 14 in Miami, Florida.

Poster (P), platform session (PL), and page numbers are from
Movement Disorders 2002;17(suppl 5).

2. Intraintestinal infusion of L-dopa methyl ester in patients
with advanced Parkinson's disease: A clinical and
pharmacokinetic study F Stocchi, L Vacca, S Ruggieri,
WC Olanow P218;S79

Continuous intraintestinal infusion of levodopa methyl ester
increases on time and reduces dyskinesias, according to
this prospective study.

Six patients with advanced PD (H&Y stage 5) received
levodopa methyl ester infusion pump into the intestine
for 6 months. Off hours were reduced from 7.8 to 1.7 hours,
on time without disabling dyskinesias increased from 0.3
to 9.4 hours, and the UPDRS dyskinesia score fell from
8.8 to 3.1. Pharmacokinetic analysis on 3 patients
indicated a three-fold increase in the area under the curve
and a four-fold increase in C-min. The authors suggest
that "benefits associated with continuous levodopa
infusion are related to maintaining the concentration
above a minimal threshold, and that it may not be
necessary to maintain the levodopa concentration
at a constant level."

My comment? this is very impressive... who knew...
hasn't hit the news, has it?

Abstracts at scientific meetings often receive substantial
attention in the high-profile media. ie; CoEnzyme Q10

For whatever reason, a substantial number of the studies
seem to be ignored by the media....

Which begs the following question... why doesn't
the foregoing rank up there with the coQ10 study?

cheers .... murray
