I've been receiving these letters for over ten years now. Back at the beginning
they would send snail mail letters. They've come into the 21st century and are
now sending them via the internet. These letters are death traps for greedy
people. I personally know of two separate incidents where recipients followed
up, one a husband and wife team actually ended up in Nigeria where they were
shaken down. The husband ended up dead, and the wife barely made it back to the
States. Another involved a greedy businessman who went to Nigeria following
receipt of a similar letter. He ended up in jail, stripped of all his personal
possessions including identification and clothing. One of his jailers took pity
on him, gave him a pair of shorts and helped him escape to a neighboring country
hidden on a cargo truck under tarps. There he went to the US embassy with
nothing to prove his identity, however a few phone calls back home helped him to
come up with proof of US citizenship.

If it sounds too good to be true, beware it usually is. Caveat emptor.
