Keith, the reason Jim has offered this advice is because the new philosophy
of YOPD is *not* to give Sinemet as an initial treatment.  When I read your
post my reaction was the same as Jim's but I didn't have the guts to write
what he did.

My husband also had YOPD.  Back in 1980 there was little besides Sinemet to
offer and Jamie immediately developed dyskinesia.  We changed neurologists -
he was put on Symmetral and, eventually, Eldepryl while his dose of Sinemet
was lowered considerably.  My husband just retired in 2000 (he was a
physical chemist) and now continues to be managed on a minimal dose of
Sinemet.  Mirapex, a very effective dopamine agonist, has helped him
considerably.

You need to find a movement disorder specialist in your area - or at the
very least, a neurologist who is knowledgeable about YOPD.  Jim is right.
