There are a few interesting aspects on the finances of Nursing care. One
overwhelming thread seems to be ... let someone else (the Government ,
Medicare, Medicaid) pay for it. This is fine in a welfare state or in
places where people do not fight taxes. In the US there is a strong
movement against taxes. So the question is, where should the money come
from. As it is, the financial conditions of the states in the US is very
poor and that is where the Medicaid money comes from, subsidized by the US
government (I am not sure what the exact arrangements between the states
and the US are), and yet the costs are going up.

A related issue is becoming indigent by putting ones belongings in a Trust
or giving it to the children. This puts you in a minimum care situation,
since that is what the government pays for (you get what you pay for). So
you may preserve your assets but pay for it with poor care. Nursing homes
come in different qualities but I do not think one will get top service and
care on Government money.
