Ray, others,

Forgive me, I haven't followed the whole thread, but for some people, a patchwork arrangement tailored to suit your needs might work. I live alone, and for the future when I'll be needing a good deal of help, I've thought about renting my spare room to someone who can provide some caregiving and basic daily housekeeping chores and errands, in exchange for low or no rent.

The roommate/caregiver might be retired or semiretired, and have some experience with caregiving/nursing, and housekeeping. Someone would be there more or less around the clock, and available for caregiving according to mutual agreement. This could be supplemented by another person who came to the home x times a week to do housekeeping, shopping, errands, and some cooking, such as a home-care worker, hopefully provided by Medicare, and maybe Medical/Medicaid, or perhaps your county's social services dept. I have a home-care worker twice a week who does general housekeeping, shopping, errands, and laundry. But could do caregiving as well, if I needed that.

Arrangements like this can be cumbersome, and need time and energy to maintain, but could be one alternative. I realize that this would be inadequate for people who need a great deal more care, but for that long, hopefully, period of time many of us could get by with such an arrangement. Am I dreaming--what do you think?

Charlotte

Mary Ann, good advice. What about us folks with no CG? I am looking into
everything California has to offer, including "Shared Housing', but you can't
be on your last legs so to speak for that. Ray
