Dulcie,
I found relief with the Flowtron HC Home Care Compression System. The
unit is about 10" long and 3 1/2 " wide. The woman who helped me at the
medical supply house measured me, had me put on stockings like cheescloth
open at both ends. Then you put these yellow plastic pumps on just like a
fishing boot (goes to upper thighs). Each leg pump has a long zipper.
Close them and then put a plastic tubing (approx. 4 ft. long) which is on
the outside of each leg and push them into the designated spot on the unit.
Then make sure that the unit is plugged in an outlet (do this before you put
them on)
Then turn the power switch on and lay back for an hour. I had always started
with a book, but the sound of the machine lulls you to sleep.........even
though it is pumping air alternately, one leg is pumped big and tight and
the other one has already decompressed. Also, the compression is set by each
individual's needs. Mine was always set at 45. It goes from 30 to 90.
When you take them off, your leg is a little sweaty and it takes a while to
reduce the swelling - weeks. But each day if you take the time to measure
your legs, you can tell it's working. My toes were turned into sausages and
that's where I noticed relief first. My legs hurt so badly before my DBS. I
had all kinds of tests done (ultrasounds) before my surgery, but nothing
showed up. They thought it was the PD progressing, but during the
DBS I cried because my legs hurt so much. They did all this brain surgery
and I felt absolutely no pain from it. I don't remember anything except my
legs. The surgeon said I recited the pledge of allegiance beautifully.
Hope this helps. If I am permitted to, I can give you the address and
phone number on the leg pump unit.
Will someone please e-mail me so I know that it's ok.
Paula
