Hi John,
I have the exact same problem, my insomnia was a small problem before my PD
symptoms started 7 years ago. I think that first amatadine was real bad for
my sleep and did not help my tremor. I am now on 4.5 mg's of mirapex daily.
It keeps my tremor at a bearable level, and may be neuro protective.

I take 800mg of neurontin twice in the evening, 5pm and 10pm, then just
before I go to bed at 11pm I take 1.0 or 1.5 mg's of klonopin. And with all
that I usually wake up after 1 or 2 hours, I get up and have a light snack,
cookies and warm milk, then I can sleep , or go into a drug induced stupor,
for 3 or 4 more hours. Then I am up at 4 or 5 in the morning and can't sleep
or take a nap. I haven't had any "natural" sleep in a couple of years.

Several other drugs I tried made me sick and did not help my sleep
(trazadone and seroquel). Elavil taken with my other drugs does help a lot,
but it causes my GI tract to shut down, bad constipation in other words. I
don't think there is any solution for our sleep problems. I am feeling
pertty bad about this as you can see.Wish I could help you, the only thing I
have to offer is to listen to a public radio station that plays classical
music all night without comercials, it is very soothing and helps me pass
the time.
