Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research Praises Introduction of
House ‘Reproductive and Therapeutic Cloning’ Bill

Group Urges Congress to Ban Only Reproductive Cloning

Washington, DC—February 26, 2003—The Coalition for the Advancement of
Medical Research (CAMR) today praised U.S. Representatives Jim Greenwood
(R-PA) and Peter Deutsch (D-FL) for introducing H.R. 801, which would ban
human reproductive cloning but allow therapeutic cloning (also called
somatic cell nuclear transfer) to move forward with federal oversight.

“The Greenwood/Deutsch bill includes stiff penalties for anyone
performing reproductive cloning as well as strict regulation of
therapeutic cloning. This is the direction the House needs to take when
voting this week—100 million Americans suffering from life-threatening
diseases and conditions are counting on them,” said Michael Manganiello,
President of CAMR. ...
