These same thoughts were going through my mind just this morning even before I read this post. But, In addition to thinking of this situation in terms of dollars, I was thinking of it in terms of morality issues. Bush wants to invade Iraq. His motive is to oust Saddam and protect the lives of Americans. In doing this, no doubt, hundreds, maybe thousands of people will lose their lives (American and Iraqi citizens). Bush obviously feels this needs to be done in spite of the lives that will be lost. On the other hand, he shudders and weeps to think that cells in a petrii dish could possibly be harmed by manipulation of the nucleus in order to further science in its quest to save lives, pain and misery. What is it that George Bush wants to protect Americans for? So that we can spend our days in wheelchairs and ultimately confined to nursing homes? I am becoming more and more disgusted with the cloak of morality these politician wrap themselves in. That is all I will say on this issue today. I am saving for another day my comments on the two nation Parkinson's Foundations that cannot seem to set aside their differences (and possibly their positions of power) for the good of the people they serve.
