Three prominent scientists have agreed to speak to the radio audience on issues related to transversing the gap between discovery from science to treatments for Patients. Ken Marek MD.....an investigator for the Parkinson's Study Group and an expert on spect scans as markers of disease progression in PD will discuss his research and the issues around validation of surrogate biomarkers for evaluation of neuro protective treatments. Diane Murphy, PhD, Director of the Neurodegeneration cluster at the Neurology Institute NIH. and thus a key leader for PD research at NIH will describe Dr. Zerhouni's (NIH Director) initiative to make PD an example of disease oriented research at NIH. She will also introduce the upcoming neuroprotective trials sponsored by NIH. I will describe progress on getting a similar designation at FDA. Time permitting, I will introduce others at the meeting such as Lucy Sargent, new staff at PDF and if possible Nate Slewett, chair of NPF. (merger or not we have to work together to beat PD.) .
