Dear Scott,
I may not be of any help at all but I'll give it a try. I am a 74 year
old, retired, third grade school teacher and I know that you are under a lot
of stress. Stress doesn't "kill" (Ha, Ha!) but, added to the effects of
Parkinson's, it can sure make you feel terrible. MEDICAL ADVICE: Be sure
you are seeing the very best Movement Disorder Specialist (Neurologist) that
you can find. If that is impossible then try to find a doctor that does care
and is willing to learn what to do for and with you. If you are taking only
the five 25/100 tablets of Sinemet per day, you are not anywhere near a toxic
level unless you are allergic to it--(some people are) but you would
certainly know by now. Doctor's do like to keep the dose at1,000 mg. or less
per day as long as they can but some of us old timers take a lot more than
that per day and are still "perking along" quite well. Has your doctor
suggested adding Selegiline or Comtan to your med schedule to make the good
effects of the Sinemet last longer per dose? Selegeline is an older medicine
(Eldepryl) but it does help some. Comtan is a new medicine. (I have some
friends who swear by it.) It must be taken at the same time as the dose of
Sinemet. It does no good when taken by itself. If you haven't already, find
and sign up for Dr. Lieberman's Question and Answer Forum. It's free and he
really knows what he is talking about. You can sign up for the Digest
form--it still is a lot of reading but you can be selective and read only the
parts that are of special interest to you. Keep Medical Disability in
mind--sometimes that is the best way to go. I think you will get lots of
good help from others on this Board. They give good advice! A friend, Mary
Ruth
