The Unity Walk is a two-mile walk, and is expected to surpass the
success of last year's event, which raised more than $1 million for
Parkinson's disease, a gradual neurodegenerative disease that affects
more than one million Americans. This year, celebrities from the
recording, film and television industries have come together to lend
their time and talent to show their support of this event. At the
walk, title sponsors Pharmacia Corporation and Boehringer Ingelheim
will present the second annual MIRAPEX Victories Research Award,
designed to encourage scientists who are committed to neurological
research in Parkinson's Disease. This year, the winner is Dr.
Clifford Shults, Professor of Neurosciences at the University of
California, San Diego School of Medicine.

Beginning at the band shell in Central Park, near 72nd Street, the
walk will follow a wheelchair- accessible path to the finish line,
where participants will be greeted by entertainment, live music and
an "ask the Doctor" booth.

All proceeds from the walk are designated for research and will be
distributed among the major U.S. Parkinson's disease foundations.
