Hi! Shirley:

    All the text books say that the main difference between Essential Tremor
(ET) and PD is that ET is characterized by action tremor (hand tremors when
you do something with it - the more force you apply to your fingers, the
tremor gets worse-  either writing or lifting smething, while people with PD
display resting tremor (tremor when you are not doing anything, constantly
shaking eg. Ali's case).  But there could be some exceptional cases.  If you
just have action tremor and no other symptoms of PD and if your tremor
dissipates under the influence of alcohol, it is considered ET and not PD.
But, according to Dr. Lieberman about 10% fo PWP do show action tremor!  I
have not read that anywhere else.   May be Dr. Bob Fink can clarify this.
    You should check with an MDS.
