Murray,

This is not only occurring in the field of
Neurology but in ALL fields of medicine.

Just this past month, my friend with Multiple
Sclerosis who was diagnosed in 1979, was
told by her Family GP [ General Practitioner ]
that she [the doctor] would no longer treat her
because she is changing her practice and will
no longer treat patients with "chronic diseases".

CHRONIC DISEASES ! Does that mean doctors
will only treat "well" patients or those who have
not been diagnosed with a disease yet???

This doctor went on to explain that patients who
have "chronic diseases" are usually under a
specialists care and she does not want to "interfere"
with that ongoing care. [B.S. can you say $$$$]

Well what happens when a Parkie or a MS'er
gets the flu ? To this she replied, "Well that doesn't
happen too often". [Good News to Parkies, eh, did
you know that? ]

This is a serious problem.

Doctors are already starting to refuse to accept or
treat patients on Medicare because the Medicare
reimbursement is always lower that the doctor charges
patients for their time [ so they loose money for every
Medicare patient they see].

Also doctors are not seeing their patients in the
hospitals anymore but will pick up care after you
have been discharged. So while you are the most ill,
you will be treated by staff physicians and residents
who don't know you or your medical history.

Ok, that's enough for now...I'll get off my soap box
and get a cup of coffee.

Gail Vass
