Click here to take action: Support Funding Increase For NIH Take Action to Increase Funding for Parkinson's Research SENATE: Support the Specter/Harkin/Feinstein Amendment When Congress returns to session on Tuesday, September 2, the Senate will begin action on the FY04 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education (L-HHS) appropriations bill. Senators Arlen Specter (R-PA), Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) will introduce an amendment to the bill that would increase funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) by $1.5 billion resulting in a 9.2% increase from FY03. Please contact your Senators before September 2 and ask them to support this amendment. HOUSE: Support Dear Colleague Letter Representatives Lois Capps (D-CA), Chris Bell (D-TX), Mark Foley (R-FL) and Jim Leach (R-IA) have authored a “Dear Colleague” letter from the House to the L-HHS conferees, proposing an 8-10% increase for NIH in the final bill determined by the House and Senate conference committee. There must be a minimum of 218 signatures on the letter when it is sent to conferees in September. Please contact your Representative, asking him/her to sign this letter.
