Dear All;
    I was terribly disappointed to note that the Bush administration not only obstructs stem cell research in USA, but it is also trying to ban any stem cell research all over the world through UN. It looks like I am not alone in my feelings regarding this administration. The following info might be of interest to you too:
    1. CONGRESS CHARGES PRESIDENT WITH OBSTRUCTION OF SCIENCE
    A report released recently by the House of Representatives' Committee on Government Reform charges that President Bush has "manipulated the scientific process and distorted or suppressed scientific findings." The report, "Politics and Science and the Bush Administration" was issued at the request of Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA).
    The report highlights 20 specific areas of science that have been affected by the politicization of science in the Bush Administration. The list ranges from abstinence education and stem cell research to global warming and missile defence. It also claims that political interference has led to "inaccurate responses to Congress, altered web sites, suppressed agency reports, erroneous international communications and the gagging of scientists."
    According to the Waxman report, there are three major ways the Bush administration has imposed its agenda on science: manipulating scientific advisory committees,
        distorting and suppressing scientific information and
        interfering with scientific research and analysis.

    Most of the scientific targets identified by the report are opposed by the right-wing constituencies who support the President or would have severe economic costs for his large corporate supporters.
    The report is at http://www.refrm.house.gov/min.

    2. The editorial in the International Science Magazine NATURE 21 Aug 2003 Vol 424 issue no. 6951. pp. 861:

        NO WAY TO RUN A SUPERPOWER.
        The scientific community had low expectations for the Bush administration when it was first elected. The record since 2001 shows that these expectations were justified.
