In suburban Markham, north of Toronto, a support group has banded together sharing knowledge and a sense of humour in the fight against this debilitating disease. Every fall, the group organizes Parkiepalooza, a dinner and dance that this year (2002) attracted 500 people and raised $13,000 for Parkinson’s research at U of T, with funds directed towards building labs, hiring researchers and start-up costs at the new Parkinson’s disease laboratory.
