can anyone tell me if balance problems can be an early symptom of parkinson's? two sites i've been to disagree on this. also, can sensory factors be symptoms? the doctor i went to yesterday suspects multiple sclerosis and answered my "why that and not pd" question by "because of sensory problems/factors" (can't remember exact word) - probably the bit of pins and needles i told him i was getting in my right hand earlier this year (after the handwriting seriously deteriorated), and maybe i didn't react to him scraping my right foot (which i've recently noticed has restricted movement) - i've never been particularly ticklish :) he also said (in answer to two of my many questions!) that he'd also be looking at multiple system atrophy, but didn't think it was olivopontocerebellar atrophy. i'm going for an mri next monday; then, depending on the result, he said he'll probably send me to a neurologist. in his referral letter (which i carefully opened and read, of course!) he said because my balance was affected, the cerebellum could be involved. i'm not sure of the disease implications there. i've got no tremor and no visual symptoms. i know pd is often misdiagnosed as ms (i'm 52), but i'm trying to find out other pwp's experiences with these symptoms he's a "consulltant physician in rehab and aged care", by the way, so i'd expect him to know parkinson's well. _________________________________________________________________ E-mail just got a whole lot better.
