Sweet Charity ... Christmas Cards And Presents Give Twice When You Buy Them From Helping Agencies HELEN HENDERSON - LIFE WRITER Nov. 8, 2003. 01:00 AM Torontonians have big hearts. Time and again this year, they have given their all ? their time, their energy, their hopes and their prayers ? battling everything from severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) to crippling power failures. With the holiday season approaching, what's left to give? You might be surprised. Money may be tight, resources stripped to the bone and food banks struggling to keep up with growing need, but there are ways of stretching dollars. Every year around this time, the Star offers a list of charitable institutions selling cards and gift items for the holiday season. Shopping from the list lets dollars do double duty, helping others while relaying good wishes to friends and family. Our list is by no means exhaustive. If there's a cause you'd like to support but you don't see it here, give them a call to see what you can do. And remember, most of these groups run on a shoestring. Before shopping, always double-check what's available and when. In most cases, prices do not include taxes and shipping. SNIP PARKINSON SOCIETY CANADA: Proceeds help fight Parkinson's disease.
