Posted on Tue, Jan. 06, 2004

Essential tremor, which causes uncontrollable, continuous shaking in the hands, head, voice and sometimes other body
parts, will be the focus of a conference Saturday in Kansas City, Kan.

An estimated 10 million Americans are affected by essential tremor, which often is misdiagnosed as Parkinson's disease.
The average age of onset is 45, but it can develop at any age and tends to worsen with age.

The keynote speaker for the conference will be Rajesh Pahwa, director of the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorder
Center at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

The conference will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Radisson Hotel, 12601 W. 95th St. It is sponsored by the
International Essential Tremor Foundation. Registration is $5 for foundation members, $10 for nonmembers, and includes
lunch.
