The discussion revolving around socialism is more of a personal one for the members of this list because of the high price we all pay for medicine and medical care. However.......we live 'over the bridge' from Canada and know that, although large groups of seniors pass over from the U.S for medicine, a significant number of Canadians come in the opposite direction for surgery. While 'cradle to grave' services are a wonderful concept, the down side is that the services are rationed (and have to be) in some circumstances. A relative of a friend came to the U.S. for coronary by-pass surgery because she was refused the procedure in Canada - she was 72 and was considered to old to be a candidate. While child care and affordable health care in the U.S. are less than adequate, there are advantages to our health care system. -------------- Happy New Year everyone Mary Ann (CG Jamie 64/24) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn
