When I found that I couldn't sleep, I tried taking Ambien which would knock me out for a solid 8 hours. But it produced a dull empty feeling of sleep and I was afraid to become totally dependent upon it. I then switched to using clonazepan .5mg once and a while (once a week if in pain), which gave me a restful deep sleep with dreams. Also I found curiously enough that if I played an audio tape on almost anything (ranging from science, literature, history) it helped me drop off into sleep. I also found that I would wake up regularly at 2 a.m., and that it would be important to get up out of bed, move around, drink a cup of non-cafenated tea, watch tv for an hour until I would feel sleepy again. If I then went immediately back to bed (with audio tape on) I would sleep for another three hours. I also found that taking a sinemet before sleep did not work for me. I found that it was important for me that I not watch any violence on tv before I went to sleep (at 9 p.m.) Good luck, David >From: KF Etzold <[log in to unmask]> >Reply-To: Parkinson's Information Exchange Network ><[log in to unmask]> >To: [log in to unmask] >Subject: How to sleep? >Date: Thu, 8 Jan 2004 16:00:16 -0500 > >Our helper lady has a terrible time trying to sleep.
