Clark Vows To Make Stem Cell Research Top Priority January 12, 2003 Lebanon, New Hampshire-AP -- Democratic presidential hopeful Wesley Clark is vowing to give a top priority to stem cell research. If elected president, Clark promises that one of his first actions would be to eliminate the Bush administration's restrictions on stem cell research. Clark says the current policy actually jeopardizes lives, since it limits work toward cures for diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and rheumatoid arthritis. Still, Clark does support a ban on all human cloning. Those who maintain that all human cloning -- even research -- must be banned argue that a cloned embryo is a human, and to destroy it for research would be immoral. Clark spoke at a forum at the Dartmouth-Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. He touted his own health care plan which he insists will provide coverage for all those now without insurance.
