Carrie: My husband (74yo, with PD for 15 plus years) has been using Comtan
as an assist to Sinemet for many years. It is not a new drug. What is new
is Stalevo which combines sinemet and comtan into one pill. He has started
using stalevo instead of the 2 separate pills with reasonably good results.
Given the length of time he has had PD, nothing works perfectly. But, we
believe the comtan has helped control some of the wearing off one might
expect at this stage of the game. If you aren't already famimliar with it,
I would suggest you order National Parkinson Foundation booklet on
medications. It covers a lot of territory and is very informative. Call
NPF at 1-800-327-4545 and they will send it and their other booklets on
caregiving,, fitness and speech. They are free of charge. Hope this is
helpful.
