Complete list of 2004 Jefferson Award nominees

Five people will be selected from this nomination list to receive Jefferson Award medallions honoring their
contribution to community service. The presentation takes place at a CityClub luncheon at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel at
noon on March 4. The public is invited to attend and hear featured speaker Norm Rice, former Seattle mayor. Cost is

The Jefferson Award program was founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Sen. Robert Taft Jr. to honor the
special dedication, sacrifices and significant accomplishments of individuals in service to the American people. The
awards also strive to motivate new leaders in public service. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer has been the Washington
state sponsor of the Jefferson Awards since 1976.

This year's five Jefferson Award judges are:

Claudia Kauffman, director of charities for the Muckleshoot Tribe.

Steve Leahy, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce.

Mona Lee Locke, Washington's first lady.

Steven Stargardter, president of City University.

Mark Trahant, P-I editorial page editor.

Bell, Bill, Mercer Island -- He is the executive director and co-founder of the Northwest Parkinson's Foundation, which
he helped create after his mother was diagnosed with the disease in 1998. In 2000 the foundation, in association with
Evergreen Health Care of Kirkland, established the Booth Gardner Parkinson's Care Center, where a team of movement
disorder specialists work to help those affected by the disease.
