> Here's a cheer for Team Parkinson!
>
> John Ball, who has been a person with Parkinson's for over 20 years,
> began running the LA Marathon in the mid-1990's. Inspired by him and
> by the Unity Walk, a bunch of us set up Team Parkinson as one of the
> 50 official charities of the LA Marathon. Ken Aidekman and Margot
> Zobel of the Unity Walk and Carol Walton of the Parkinson's Alliance
> helped get it started and have been enormously generous with their help
> and advice.
> Mignone Trenary set things up the first year. From then on, Edna Ball
> has carried the ball (pardon the pun). Actually she has carried the
> torch to New York, Washington, Spokane, San Diego, and San Francisco,
> where people have sponsored friends and families who have run marathons
> in those cities.
>
> Our goals are to raise money for research for the cure, and to encourage
> communication among the various PD organizations. Thanks to Margaret
> and Marty Tuchman, 100% of our net proceeds go directly to fund research.
>
> Several people with Parkinson's have run or walked the full 26.2 miles,
> and many cyclists and 5-K walkers have earned "Finisher" t-shirts as
> well. Sponsorships have come in from every direction.
>
> If you're in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, March 7, come join us at
> our cheering section near the Staples Center on Olympic and Georgia.
> Please check our website: www.teamparkinsonla.org and sponsor the team,
> or maybe a team member (like me...)
>
> Mary Yost, diagnosed 1990, age 56 today
> 2000 walked the marathon in just 9.3 hours with constant coaching from
> nephew Thomas Provost
> 2002 lost steam and quit at mile 17
> 2004 still walking but just the 5k and offering a prize to people with
> PD for Last Place
