OHIO: Medical College of Ohio's Mini-Med School Proves Popular Originally published Tuesday, March 16, 2004 TOLEDO -- Like many real medical schools, the Medical College of Ohio's Mini Medical School, which gives members of the public an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of medical students, now has a waiting list. The popular program began its fourth year March 9 with 90 students. MCO's school, sponsored by Pfizer, is a free eight-week program of lectures taught in an entertaining and easy to understand style. The school is held on Tuesday evenings each spring in the Health Education Building on the MCO campus. Topics include heart function, infection and the immune system, cancer, aging issues, Parkinson's disease, complementary medicine and estrogen replacement therapy. As the region's only academic medical institution, the school also helps people understand the importance of research in advancing medicine and patient care.
