It was two babies.  I recall the case quite well; it was a topic of discussion in
the neurosurgical community (there was another similar case, as well; but the
one being mreferred to here, I believe, was operated in Singapore).

The condition is called "craniopagus twins", with two individuals "fused"
during the conception/gestation process.
