Hi Lisa,
I am a 40 yr old female who was diagnosed with PD in November of last year. I have been on Requip for a while now which has helped the tremors in my right hand and arm. I also have pain mostly in my right sholder from the constant stiffness on my right side. Balance is also a problem. I agree with Lanier about the exercise. I have been horseback riding, rollerblading, bowling, take walks, bicycle ride. I will be starting a Tai Chi class on Monday and hope it will help with flexiblity and balance. Sleep is also VERY important - the more rested I am the more coordination and less tremor.

Just keep a positive attitude!!! We can get through this together!!!

Hi Lisa,

I developed a slight hand tremor almost 9 years ago, at age 60, so I was not
really young when it started, and did not take any medication for a year or
two Then I found out that benadryl was a helpful (mild) PD drug, and I took
it for 3 or 4 years. I then went to an MDS (movement disorder specialist),
and he started me on Mirapex. It did not help the tremor much, but I think
it has delayed the progression of my PD. By the time I reached 8 years I was
having fatigue and was having a hard time walking any kind of pace, also
could no longer swim more than 1/4 length of a pool at the health club. So I
started sinement and it was a lot of help I can now walk faster and swim the
length of the pool.

So what I am saying is that I think Mirapex is a good drug to start on and
may slow down the progression of the disease. I am taking 1mg 3X a day. The
best thearpy for delaying symptoms is exercise. The DR's won't tell you this
but if you read up on the disease in publications from the NPF and other
sources that is what they all say.

I am still a stage 1 PWP. 1 being the lowest and 5 being the most advanced.
I do not feel very good, have very poor sleep quality and have muscle and
joint pain. But I do not have any of the most disabling symptoms yet. Hope
this info helps a little bit.
