Hi Lisa Yes, its been 2 yrs since I got the news(I am 56 yr male). Its
sets new direction! But you're right to face it head on. Become familiar
with the various oraganizations such as National Parkinson Foundation and
Parkinson Action Network. Visit their websites, tune into Dr Lieberman and
track the articles that Murray Charters provides (he also has a great
website.) There are many good contributors on this list that can offer
different perspectives.
One question that you may want to consider: Should I start medication now
or wait? One line of thought is to delay and/or minimize med usage because
of potential side effects in the future. Also, have you seen a Movement
Disorder Specialist? These are neurologists specializing in movement
disorders.
Drug trials? They are a personal choice--I am in one. I made the choice
to participate because there is no cure so the best that I can do is delay
symptom onset (I think most trials for early PD are based on neuroprotection
i.e. delay of symptom onset.)
Welcome , Bob

Subject: new diagnosis young onset

> My husband is 47 and just diagnosed with Parkinson's. The DR. recommends
starting out on Mirapex for his tremor and for also delaying onset of more
symptoms. Does anyone have any experience with this med? Do you think this
is the way to go? We are going to seek a second opinion also, but your input
would be welcome. We are really quite devasted with this, we have a 3 year
old son, but plan to deal with it head on . We also see that there are
several clinical studies out there, would you recommend we go there?
