that on the 24th & 25th of june, we are expecting the arrival of a number of PWP's from all over the USA in Chillicothe, IL for our 3rd annual (and my 14th PD event) PD weekend. while folks will have time to get to know each other and to hang out at my house (with lots of my homemade Irish Cream!!), our real business gets underway on Saturday, June 26th at 9:30 am with "Patients as Providers" put on by PLWP.org (People Living With Parkinson's). this seminar, which is free to the anyone interested will be held at the United Presbyterian Church located at the corner of Northmoor and Allen Rds in Peoria and will start with registration and coffe at 9:30 am. Brenda Tucker and Nancy Abraham (co-founders of PLWP) will offer opening statements and introduce speakers who will present topics related to helping PWP's feel better (thai chi, exercise, acupunture, massage therapy and chiropractic). we will break for a free box lunch and then finish our discussions with Dr, Marc S. Katchen, the director of the new PD & movement disorder clinic at Methodist Hospital in Peoria. He will talk about treating the PD patient "whole-isticly." This will be an interactive symposium. on Sunday morning, bright and early, we will all head down to Le Vieux Carre which is located across the street from the Peoria downtown Post Office (619 SW Water Street) to begin to set up and decorate for our Shake, Rattle and Roll which will be presented in conjunction with the Parkinson Alliance. we will kick off festivities around 10 am with coffee, juice, breakfast goodies and fruit, early bird registration, live music performed by Ken Carlyle and the best silent auction that we have ever had!! this auction will include these items among many others: *a baseball signed by Kirby Puckett *a poster signed by Ed Macauley, Hersey Hawkins, Oscar Robertson, & Dave Stallworth *a basketball signed by Ed Macauley, Hersey Hawkins, Oscar Robertson & Dave Stallworth *lots of "Monster Garage" items signed by Jesse James *book"Married to a Rock Star" autographed by "terrible" Ted "the motor city madman" Nuegent and his wife, the author of the book, Shemane Nuegent *a hand painted silk scarf and lots of other handmade items (we have collected over $5,000 worth of items to auction!!) at 10:30 Ken will take a break and the Hair Company Kids will do a 20 minute performance....then Ken will finish his set at Noon, we will have speakers: Carol Walton (the Executive Director of the Parkinson Alliance), State Representative David R. Leitch, Jeremiah Posedel (the downstate champaign director for Senate-hopeful Barrack Obama) and AJ and Greg Wasson from PAN. at 12:30 we will begin our walk, roll or leisurely stroll along the beautiful Peoria Riverfront and then return for brunch and the music of the Bog Side Zukes-a Celtic band that is very popular here in Peoria. we will announce the winners of the auction, draw names for door prizes, have a wedding reception for AJ and Greg, and we are looking at an action packed and fun filled day. if anyone is interested in either of these two events, please call me at 309-579-3026 or email me to get details on motel reservations or other info. hope to see you three weeks from today at SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLL!!!! -- Joan E.
