Medical breakthroughs involving stem cells are changing the ways we understand and treat diseases and injuries. The industrial revolution created a new world of goods and ways of making them. The computing revolution changed the way we use and process information. Today we stand on the threshold of a biomedical revolution, involving stem cells and regenerative medicine to treat illnesses of cell deterioration and damage. The future is promising. Parkinson's patients are among those who stand to benefit greatly from stem cell research. We all need to understand the health care options available today, and those that shall become available tomorrow. We cordially invite you to this awareness-expanding conference. We are bringing together inspiring speakers who will talk to us about what is really going on in the labs, and what needs to happen to develop new, effective treatments for "incurable" illnesses. We'll also discuss, with leading bio-ethicists, the moral issues in which this science is entangled. Participating in the conference is one way of making our voice heard: we need this research, for the sake of our loved ones, for ourselves -- for the millions of people today and in the future whom the research will benefit. While the science is advancing at rapid pace, there are funding and legislative barriers that we need to overcome. Politicians, influenced by dogma and misinformation, mustn't deprive humanity of remedies that can alleviate so much suffering and save so many lives. We need to elect political representatives who support the humane aims of stem cell research. Advance Stem Cell Research Now The clock is ticking for those who have incurable degenerative diseases and conditions. The question today is no longer "Should we advance Stem Cell Research?" We ask instead, "How much longer must we wait?" With this conference we inaugurate an international grassroots movement in support of stem cell research to find cures. Please join us on this historical occasion to: * Hear renowned scientists discuss the latest research findings * Participate in a discussion of bio-ethics with foremost thinkers * Learn about the politics that will hinder or advance the research * Find out how we can all take action in our communities to make a difference Working together, we can advance the search for cures! When we decided to place a man on the moon, we made it happen several years later. In the case of stem cell research, we will see great progress in 3-5 years if that is our serious intent. CONFERENCE SPEAKERS: Gaymon Bennett, Bio-ethicist, Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences, Co-editor of "Bridging Science and Religion" Robert Klein, Co-Chairman, The California Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative Beckie McCleery, President, TAMR Thomas Okarma, M.D., Ph.D., CEO, The Geron Corporation Daniel Perry, President, Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research Don Reed, Californians for Cures, Activist, Author, Sponsor of stem cell research Bernard Siegel, Genetics Policy Institute Mary-Anne Warren, Ph.D., Professor of Philosophy, San Francisco State University, Bio-ethicist and Author Irving Weissman, M.D., Ph.D., Stanford University For details about the conference and to register, please go to: http://www.stemcellaction.org "Stem Cells are for Life!"
