Ervin, Hi my name is Chris and I have a DBS. I too responded poorly to
Sinemet and medications in general. It would take me 3 days of taking
Sinemet to get an adequate response and another 3 to 4 days for it to wash
out. Stanford had to do a special test in order to get me into the program.
We worked it so that I was off medications for 5 days and tested, then on
medication, for 5 days and tested again. To get an adequate response. I do
not respond well to other medications either; mirapex, comptan, artane,
etc. But I got into the program thanks to the determination of my doctors
at Stanford. After having the DBS I was seen by Dr. Kholer of Mt. Sinai
hospital in New York he decided that my Parkinson's was a result of
Manganese Poisoning. Cases of Manganese induced Parkinson's are typically
non responsive, but since I responded so well to the DBS that he was going
to have to rethink some of the people he had turned down in the past for
DBS. Best of luck in getting into the program. Chris
