AIDS activists have given a much needed boost to quickly bringing promising
drugs into use without going through the usual FDA approval process.
But....people with AIDS are dying, so if such drugs don't work effectively
or only sustain life a little longer, the odds are still on the side of the
victim.

Parkinson's Disease is different. PWP continue to live beyond the efficacy
of the surgical or medical procedure they've received. So, even though stem
cell implants offer some degree of relief, it is important to observe what
happens to the patient two, five, ten years down the road. If the cure
becomes worse than the disease, it is best not to try to advance this
research to a wider audience.

Those of us who have tried to keep up with PD research have watched while
the 'miracle' of adrenal gland brain implants and pig cell implants have
proven to be dismal failures - even though adrenal cell implants offered the
same brief relieve from PD symptoms. I'm not ready to jump on the band
wagon of stem cell research just yet. Stem cells are living things and, as
was observed by the Professor of chaos theory in the movie Jurassic Park,
'life finds a way' - and sometimes the way isn't what we anticipated.

The Pope and Jerry Falwell aren't the problem - the problem is in using
common sense when dealing with the unknown.
