OHIO: Auction raises $50K to fight Parkinson's

July 31, 2004

The Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's Disease Research and Wellness
proclaimed its first big fund-raiser, this weekend's Sunflower Revolution, a huge
success.

The foundation raised more than $50,000 at an auction Friday night. The auction
was combined with a dinner at the Westin Hotel downtown, but the amounts raised
by the dinner were not known. The fund-raiser also included both 25- and 62-mile
bike rides Saturday. A combined 125 bikers rode in the event, said Cindy Starr,
spokeswoman for the Neuroscience Institute.

Davis Phinney, 44, started the foundation, with Kathleen Krumme and David Ariosa,
managers of Oakley Cycles, after being diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson's
disease in 2000.

For information about the foundation, call 731-9111.
