Ned,

"M. D." stands for what it normally stands for (Doctor of Medicine).
"FACS", stands for "Fellow of the American College of Surgeons" which
signifies the satisfaction of requirements by a Board-certified specialist in
surgery.  The "P. C." stands for "Professional Corporation" (certainly not
"politically correct"!), which is the business entity of my practice for tax
purposes.

I am a Board-certified neurosurgeon with a practice in Northern California,
perform Parkinson surgery (although these days, I refer most of it to a major
research center where more facilities are available), and I am a professor at
the University of California Medical School in San Francisco.
