UK: Parkinson's Help Is Here In Notts

12:00 - 06 October 2004

Advice for people with Parkinson's Disease and their carers is available at a series
of events to be held later this month.

The informal gatherings are run by The Parkinson's Disease Society Area
Development Committee and they will feature medical information, benefits advice
and guidance on where carers can find support.

The Society is also keen to set up a new Nottingham branch to support those
affected by the condition.

The events will take place from 10am to 2pm at: The Lovelace Centre, (previously
called the Hucknall Community Centre), Ogle Street, Hucknall, on Friday, October
22; The Park Gate Youth & Community Centre, Chamberlain Close, Clifton, on
Wednesday, October 27 and The West Bridgford Community Centre, Church Drive,
West Bridgford, on Thursday, October 28.

Vina Shah, a spokeswoman for society, said many people with Parkinson's,
especially those who developed the condition at a young age, did not make use of
the local support, because they thought they would be uncomfortable with older
people. But there is established, dedicated support for young people with
Parkinson's in Nottingham and opportunities to link up with others of a similar age,
she said.

For information on local services call Vina Shah on 0116 241 8012
