Montana - 'Sorry' Seen As Magic Word to Avoid Suits
By LINDSEY TANNER, AP

‘I'm sorry ... so sorry'

By The Helena IR - 11/12/04

On Tuesday, Nov. 16, Dr. Aaron Lazare, chancellor, dean and professor
of psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, will
give a presentation, "Apologies and Forgiveness" in the
Avila/DeSmet/Rice room in the Carroll College Campus Center at 7 p.m.

A leading authority on the psychology of shame and humiliation,
Lazare is the author of a new book entitled, "On Apology" (Oxford
University Press, 2004). Carroll College is co-sponsoring this event
with the Helena Education Foundation, and it is free to the public.

"One of the most profound interactions of civilized people is the
offering and acceptance of apologies," Lazare says. "The importance
of apologies in personal relationships has its parallel in national
and international affairs. The dynamics of both are similar."

Lazare will also be among several hosts presiding over a dinner table
at the Helena Education Foundation's Great Conversations, 5:30 p.m.,
Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Best Western Great Northern Hotel.

Each discussion leader will introduce a topic and launch talking
points over a gourmet dinner.

Tickets are $60 with reservations required by today. Call 443-2545 or
