does anyone else out there feel like they are being spoken to like a child who is throwing a tantrum because s/he lost the prize to a classmate? or, to take your metaphor and run with it, because someone else made the winning play?

we are not children, and this is not a pop warner football game.

> He may change his mind about stem cell research

a lot of things *may* happen, but the things one wants to happen are more likely to do so if one takes action to influence the outcome - like tom publishing that article, right?

> It is unfortunate that people still feel the need to continue such unproductive attacks on the President

i am not sure to what you are referring. presumably you do not mean the voicing of disagreement or criticism, as those things are inevitable, not to mention healthy and necessary, and are not in and of themselves either unproductive or attacks.

> We can waste the next four years whining

ditto with the "whining."

what troubles me most about some of the sentiments i have heard coming from people who support bush is this - it can take the form of labeling the person with the different point of view (bush basher and bush hater are the two that come to mind) or labeling the expression of that point of view (whining, unproductive, attack) but the result, or so it seems to me, is the same: either the person or the point of view expressed is dismissed - and that troubles me. since i don't know what exactly you are referring to, it is difficult to evaluate the classifying of it as "whining," but i have certainly heard similar labels being applied to the expression of perfectly reasonable points of view.

> or we can try to build a consensus that will advance research for a cure.

i am not convinced that a consensus is necessary, but in the interest of dialog, what sort of consensus do you envision, in your ideal outcome?

> He provides hope for all.

that is a gross overstatement. he does quite the opposite for me.

> He is a good man.

You are entitled to your opinion - i trust you respect that i am entitled to mine.

Teresa - Very well put. Why, why, why does this continue? It's time for
those who did not vote for him, to accept the fact that whether they like
it or not, he's in for another four years. Four years is a very long
time, and who knows? He may change his mind about stem cell research
before the end of this next term. Best to you. Jo Ann
